Impressive dining tables were rare in 18th century New England due to the small size of colonial era dining rooms; however, later in the Federal period when mansions became more common, large banquet tables became more prevalent. Eldred Wheeler's Double Pedestal Dining Table was created in the Connecticut style, circa 1750 - 1770. The Eldred Wheeler Oval Double Pedestal Dining Table is a beautiful piece in Tiger Maple. Highly figured maple boards are not only used to craft the table top and leaves, but are also used for each of the two pedestals, creating an all over effect that is a real showpiece.
